The CAGED collection started when I was thinking about my days as an architecture student in Barcelona. While studying such a hard degree, drawing and sketching fashion was my own way to keep my passion alive. I knew one day I would be able to pursue this dream of becoming a fashion designer and all these colorful drawings would be something more than just a hobby. Studying architecture however gave me a lot of positive things for five years: not only I met my soulmate but, I also learnt how important organization, discipline and hard work are.
Looking at those drawings now I see how important those moments of freedom and simply creating and sketching were to me. Now that I’m also in my senior year as a fashion design student I see how much I’ve evolved my aesthetic. The idea of this collection is pick this personal journey I made and translate it into a collection that represents both periods in my life: the dreamy architecture student who felt trapped in a degree that wasn’t his passion and, the meticulous fashion student who is still obsessed about details and embroidery.
I usually tend to over-research for my collections ending with tons of images. For this collection I wanted to keep it very narrow to only to pictures. The first one represents the caged feeling and the second one the relief and freedom of pursuing a dream. For the first picture I chose the inside of a greenhouse because I think it represents perfectly how I was feeling during that time. Inside a controlled space, living as and exotic plant in a place where doesn’t belong. The second image is a flamingo bird sleeping. I think it also speaks clearly about how I feel now. Not only because a bird has an amazing freedom to fly everywhere but also because the picture expresses a peaceful and relaxing feeling that really represents how confident I feel about my Fashion Design career.
